0:21 Hi, I'm Eli the patio guy. 0:23 Today, I want to talk to you about 7 of the most common questions we're asked here at Chillax Patios regarding alumawood patio covers. 0:31 OK, so let's get right into it. 0:32 Number one, what is the wind rating on an alumawood patio cover? 0:37 The wind rating for the alumawood patio covers, in Arizona are required to be about 100 to 110 mile an hour wind reading. 0:44 So most of our haboobs and, and our dust storms and stuff, like they're not gonna get above 60 or so something like that. 0:50 , but they're rated for 100, 110 mile an hour wind, so we're plenty good on that. 0:55 and then as far as the rating, it only is as good as the installer. 0:58 If the, if the install is not good, then that's, that, that, that's, that's where that falls apart. 1:04 Number 2. 1:05 What is the most common patio cover color in the Phoenix, Arizona area? 1:10 Brown. 1:11 Brown has been the most common patio cover color in Phoenix for probably the last 10 years. 1:16 Now, it is starting to shift a little bit more towards Adobe and grays and blacks, but Brown is still by far the leader, at least from what we've seen in our company. 1:27 Number 3, where can you build an alumawood patio cover? 1:33 You can build these almost anywhere you want. 1:35 Like we, we build them over. 1:39 For driveways, for a carport, you know, if you do a solid cover, you can do them over a courtyard to give your courtyard shade, you can do the backyard, over a back patio. 1:48 Pretty much where you cannot build them is if you're encroaching within your setback. 1:52 Most of properties are gonna have a setback. 1:55 You can't go within 35, or even 10 ft of the property line, depends on your property. 1:59 And, and you, so you can't encroach into that. 2:02 that's pretty much where you can't build them, but other than that, you can build them just about anywhere that the HOA or the city will allow. 2:09 Number 4. 2:10 How long does it take to build an aluminate patio cover? 2:15 Well, there's two parts to that question. 2:17 One is, how long does it take from placing the order to actually getting the product? 2:22 That can depend on, do you have, are we getting permits? 2:26 Do you have an HOA or all that stuff. 2:28 If there's none of those, then it just kind of depends on what season of the year. 2:33 In the wintertime, sometimes we can get to things within 2 to 3 weeks. 2:36 In the summertime, it might be 4 to 6 weeks because that's our busy season, that's when everybody's wanting to get Shade and so it can take a little bit longer to get the things there. 2:45 And then as far as how long does the actual build take, so that depends on there too, whether or not it's a permitted structure. 2:52 If it's not a permmited structure, most projects are between 1 and 3 days. 2:57 Now, if it is a permanent structure, I always say, a good rule of thumb is a week because there are, you know, you have to start, stop, inspect, and then continue. 3:09 So by the time you have So from the start to the final inspection, you're looking at at least a week, maybe even more, depends on the, the scenario. 3:20 Number 5, how and where do you secure an alumawood patio cover? 3:25 Well, if you attach it to a house, you're gonna be securing it by lagging into your studs of the home. 3:31 So you're gonna make sure that you find the studs, lag into that, and then that's how you secure that to the house. 3:37 As far as footings, you're looking at a couple different things. 3:40 If it's a concrete footing, that's The steel posts will be embedded right into the concrete footing. 3:47 Now, if it is a concrete slab, then we're attaching a concrete slab. 3:50 There's usually a base plate that is engineered to take the place of a concrete embedded post. 3:56 So it is a half inch base plate, 8 by 8 with 4 bolts in it, and then that will be redhead anchored right to the concrete slat. 4:04 So in most cases, that's how you secure a patio cover. 4:09 Number 6, what is the average warranty on another wood patio cupboard? 4:15 The warranty can depend on what company you're using to do the install, but as far as the material goes, it is a limited lifetime warranty. 4:22 Now, the limitation is the chalking and fading of the paint. 4:26 Other than that, it is a lifetime guaranteed product. 4:29 Now, as far as the paint chipping, cracking, and peeling, that is a lifetime guarantee. 4:34 However, everything is going to chalk and fade at some point in the Arizona sun. 4:38 That being said, most alumawood has warranties anywhere between 6 and 10 years of no chalking and fading. 4:45 And then as far as labor warranty, that really depends on the install company. 4:51 Now, 2/3 of all construction businesses are out of business within 5 years. 4:58 So if you are contracting with a company that is less than 5 years in business, your chances of having Any warranty at all on the labor after 5 years is 1 out of 3, and that is if they do more than the standard 2-year warranty. 5:14 Most contractors are going to give you a 2 year labor warranty because that is what's required by Arizona law. 5:21 However, now what we do is we do a lifetime warranty on the label. 5:24 If, if we install it, we're gonna stand behind it and We've been in business 10 years now, so we, we have gone back on projects, but we try really hard not to have to do that. 5:35 so the warranty, it really depends on who you go with. 5:37 Materials limit a lifetime, and then as far as labor, 2 years is what's required by law, and then it just goes up from there. 5:45 And even that depends on the credibility of the company. 5:50 Number 7, what is the cheapest type of alumawood patio cupboard? 5:56 Well, the least expensive option, price per square foot is going to be your lattice cover. 6:00 So the lattice cover is gonna have your slats that run typically north and south to get the most shade that way. 6:06 But then in the, at high noon and a little bit before and a little bit after, it will allow some filtered sunlight through the, the patio cover. 6:14 And that's gonna be your best option as far as your least expensive. 6:20 Structure.
What To Consider When Hiring A Contractor
0:00: You might be asking yourself, do I need a permit to build a pergola or a patio cover in Maricopa County here in Arizona? 0:08: And in this video, my goal is to explain the the ins and outs on some of that on what does and what does not require a permit. 0:14: So first of all, everything in Maricopa County does not actually need a Maricopa County permit. 0:18: there's a lot of different municipalities and cities, but there are county islands within each city that do require a permit with Maricopa County. 0:26: All of Sun City and all of Sun City West. 0:29: will be permitted through Maricopa County. 0:32: And then as far as what is and is not required to have a permit, that jurisdiction says anything over 200 square feet, that is free standing. 0:42: Needs a permit or anything that is attached to a building requires to have a permit or if it has any electrical or utilities in it, then it's required to have a permit. 0:50: So if you can have lights or a ceiling fan, then it is required to have a permit or if it's attached to a house or if it's free standing and over 20 square feet. 0:59: So as far as that. 1:00: , there's within the Phoenix, there's a lot of county islands, and then all, all cities of the valley are gonna have county islands as well. 1:08: So that will all require to be permitted through Maricopa County if it does need a permit. 1:13: And so that's basically the gist of it. 1:16: It, it's pretty simple. 1:16: Anything over 200 square feet or if it's attached to a building, or if it has electrical.
