They’re available in both non-insulated and insulated panel options. For most open-air setups, non-insulated panels are more than sufficient—the airflow beneath the cover keeps the area cool, and any temperature difference is only noticeable within the top 12 inches. Insulated panels become more relevant if the structure is enclosed or if impact resistance is a concern, such as in areas near golf courses. At about four inches thick, insulated panels are much more resistant to dents from falling objects.

Alumawood solid covers can be installed in a variety of ways—attached to your home, freestanding, or cantilevered if the size is within certain limits. While they cost a bit more than lattice covers, the added sun protection makes them a worthwhile upgrade. Insulated panels are a bigger step up in price, so they’re best reserved for specific use cases.
